Thin Skinned Pseudo Citizens

One of the catch-all phrases that I use frequently is the term “Thin-skinned Pseudo Citizen” but a lot of people do not catch the subtlety there even when I am directing it at them personally. The term itself is easy enough to explain but it deserves a closer look at just why I disapprove of such people. In addition, why they are more dangerous than any hundred people who actually have the capacity to formulate their own opinions … even when those opinions do not agree with mine personally.

Thin-skinned is an old term meaning someone who would suffer easily, generally from blisters, cuts or scratches. These people were often left on their own and as a direct result walked blindly into situations that could and sometimes did kill them. The thin-skinned person often remained blissfully unaware of the hazards that surrounded them and many shunned any help that was offered. Whether they refused help because they thought they knew it all already or because they were just bound and determined to get by on what they already thought they knew rather than learning what was needed remains a mystery. Those that did live through their thin-skinned period however, were painfully aware of their costs and looking back, would have avoided them in the first place given the opportunity to do it all over again.

It referred originally to people who were new to a harsher and more difficult way of life and thus were much more likely to suffer injuries or even die because of things that the “average” person in those circumstances would not even be phased by because they could see them coming and avoid them. The distinction is important there that the average person who lived under the same circumstances would not be phased while the thin-skinned person would be injured or even killed.

While I do highly disapprove of these people, I do agree with Rudyard Kipling when it comes to killing. The only reason for killing is to eat or in self-defense. Therefore, before you go trying to claim that I am advocating killing someone, it is their inability to deal with their environment that resulted in their death and not because someone simply killed them because they did not like them. In other words, it does not mean that I have any designs on killing people, only that these people were often unsuited to the environment in which they lived and that is the relative portion of the commentary here.

Pseudo is a word that means fake or false. You may have heard the term Pseudonym meaning a fake name that some people use when writing or for other purposes. Now many of these people are not intentionally liars but they just do not tell you the truth. They tell you what they believe to be the truth and the scary thing is that they actually believe it to be true. You may have heard that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

It is not that these people do not have good intentions, only that their intentions are misguided and their actions are even worse. As an example; if you were in a car accident and suffered a broken arm, this would be the person chopping your arm off in order to prevent it from getting injured further when they removed you from the car … even if the car was relatively undamaged and you could just as easily get out without their assistance. Their intention really is to help you and they really do believe that they are doing the right thing. Unfortunately, no amount of explanation, no facts and no reality will change them and get them to turn away from what their perception of the situation.

Citizen. A citizen is a lawful resident of a locale. An immigrant may be a resident but is not truly a citizen unless they swear an oath to be a citizen of this nation alone. An immigrant is also someone who has emigrated from his or her country to this country and gone through the process of immigration. It is in this way that we derive the term illegal alien as opposed to an undocumented immigrant. If a person has broken our laws in order to avoid the necessary time or expense of coming here, their presence is illegal. If they have not gone through the immigration process, they are an alien and not an immigrant. A citizen is someone who has either been born here or has otherwise pledged allegiance to these Independent but United states of America and wishes to conform to the accepted standards of our society.

If you put it all together, a thin-skinned pseudo citizen is one of those people that is blissfully ignorant of their surroundings and very liable to end up suffering as a result of their lack of any useful or relevant knowledge. What makes them even more dangerous is that their conviction that they are correct often leads them to try to “help” others who can see the danger clearly. Sometimes the more thick-skinned or seasoned citizen left the thin-skinned person to suffer their own fate but as often as not, some deep-rooted sense of concern led them to attempt to help the thin-skinned pseudo citizen much to their own chagrin and often at great personal expense.

It really is not that the thin-skinned pseudo citizen wants to help that makes them dangerous. It is the fact that they honestly believe that with a very limited amount of knowledge, generally information that they have been spoon fed because it sounded good whether or not it ever worked in the real world, that they will lead many others to ruin by blindly following the “enlightened” path that they tread upon. Most of them would never willfully admit to having faith but it is exactly that which blinds them and prevents them from seeing the danger ahead or listening to those screaming at them in warning of the dangers ahead.

It is their blind faith in incomplete knowledge and a lack of wisdom based on limited life’s experience that makes them so dangerous. The fact that they are so blinded by faith as to attempt to drag others down that road only makes them worse and the reason I so despise the thin-skinned pseudo citizen.
